  • Ability to transfer data between phone and computer

Cons

  • Inconsistent performance in data transfers
  • Sensitivity adjustments may be counterproductive

Bump is an innovative Android app that facilitates the sharing of contacts, photos, and files with a physical 'bump' between two devices.

Setting Up

Upon launching Bump, users will be guided to set the specific pieces of contact information they are willing to share. This smooth process allows one to customize the profile to their liking, opting to include or exclude details such as phone number, email address, profile photo, and address. Additionally, users can also attach photos, other contacts, and even apps, making it a potentially comprehensive data sharing tool.

Transferring Data

To transfer data between devices using Bump, both parties require the app installed on their respective phones. Once both phones have the app set up, a simple tap of the phones will initiate the contact and file transfer. This ingenious application eradicates the need for manual data input, promising a swift and easy transfer.

Performance

Despite boasting a unique and intriguing concept, Bump's reliability has been called into question. Our testing suggested inconsistencies in the success rate of transfers - taking up to six or seven attempts before a successful data transmission from a HTC Desire to a Legend. The app also includes a sensitivity setting feature, however, increasing the sensitivity often led to the app opening up at every slight movement of the phone, not necessarily when bumped with another device.

Additional Features

Bump extends beyond phone-to-phone data sharing, offering users the ability to transfer photos from their phones to their computers, making it an efficient tool for extensive data sharing. Furthermore, you can save the transferred images directly to your hard drive or generate a short link for instant sharing on various platforms.

While Bump presents as a fun and novel concept, its inconsistent performance may impact its overall usefulness.
